Christmas at ours • Quality time spent with loved ones is the most precious part of the holiday period. Five members of the Good Food team share the dishes that grace their family dinner tables every year, and invite you to share your festive traditions using #BBCGFCelebrateTogether

Ben’s veggie ‘forcemeat’ balls • Mum has always served these with Christmas dinner, and her mother did the same. It’s a tradition my siblings and I are keen on, but we don’t always spend Christmas Day together, so I work them into other occasions over the festive period. Forcemeat balls are traditionally made with ground or puréed meats (such as beef, veal or pork) and fat. My family version uses vegetarian suet and breadcrumbs instead, so they’re similar to stuffing balls. They’re irresistibly crunchy and absorb so much flavour.

Hetty’s spiced rice with beef • My mum was born in Ghana, but is now British-Ghanaian. We eat lots of traditional Ghanaian dishes, often served with rice – two of our favourites are waakye and jollof rice. A few years ago, a family friend made me this spiced rice dish – she always cooks an interesting array of dishes for us, and this one was completely new to me. I introduced it to my mum and brothers, who loved it. We like it because it’s seasoned with plenty of spices without being too hot – it has a lovely warming flavour.
