EMERGING VARIETALS • Always a fascinating tasting with loads of different varietals and non-mainstream styles. Who said that these non-mainstream wines would not take off? Not only have they been embraced by winemakers but it seems that the public is coming on board. Interestingly it seems that these generally mid-weight wines are also causing a shift in winemaking styles of the regulars, resulting in fewer over the top reds and whites.

HOW WE JUDGE • Our tastings and published ratings are designed with one thing in mind: to provide a useful and genuine balanced guide on wines to our readers. In order to achieve this we follow certain procedures in an activity that is notoriously difficult! There are regular criticisms of wine shows and various scoring systems; here is how we approach our tastings.

LIMESTONE COAST

LIMESTONE COAST & SURROUNDS • One of our classic cabernet regions and once again there are some great wines here to choose from. Also the chardonnays showed that this region can produce some of the best of this variety and should not be overlooked. Other performers included merlot, cabernet blends and some good shiraz examples.
