CENTRAL & WESTERN VICTORIA
CENTRAL & WESTERN VICTORIA • A wide sweep of micro-climates here generally verging on the cooler side. It makes for interesting diversity! In this judging the stand outs were lovely aged shiraz wines and young riesling and marsanne varietals. Cabernets are featured along with some very interesting alternative varieties, particularly grenache.
ITALIAN & SPANISH • Always an interesting tasting covering a portion of the Emerging Varieties we conducted earlier last year. In this one we also allow samples from the European home land as yard sticks to compete with the new world versions. Always lots of fun and in a blind judging always illuminating.
BAROSSA VALLEY & EDEN VALLEY
BAROSSA VALLEY & EDEN VALLEY • Always a pleasure! The Barossa never disappoints, with its genuine "bang for the buck" flavours that are hard to ignore. As expected here the gems are the pristine riesling and rich, flavoursome shiraz wines. Diversity is beginning to creep here with some pulling back on the powerful characters. But be careful not to "throw the baby out with the bath water", when flavour is the signature of the Barossa.
CHARDONNAY & BLENDS • A great diversity of styles across all price ranges showed in this judging. The "arty crafty" winemakers were in their element here as you can see by the judges comments. Great consistency; some great values and some well deserved highly priced wines also.

EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED
NEW RELEASES • Pretty much a 50/50 result here with the best half of the wines recommended. Unlike other buying guides it shows that we are particular with what we recommend. With us not everyone is a winner, which means that the wines we do recommend are worthy of your attention. In this judging there was no clear standout category but both good wines and everyday quaffing wines across the board.
