Friends forever • “I love these women with literally every ounce of my heart and soul,” Jennifer Aniston said as she joined Lisa Kudrow and Courteney Cox, who has received a Hollywood Walk of Fame star.

Smiling sphinx found • A small, smiling sphinx believed to represent the Roman Emperor Claudius has been uncovered in an ancient temple in southern Egypt. The miniature statue has a distinct “smiley face and dimples”.

In awe of Aurora Australis • Stargazing enthusiasts in Australia have been treated to a spectacular light show as solar radiation dances on the Earth’s atmosphere to create colours and patterns in the night sky.

Nic’s niece is one to watch! • When Lucia Hawley takes the reins as the new Australian host of Live From E!, fans will expect her to be more than comfortable with celebrities. Lucia has previously appeared on red carpets as the guest of her megastar aunt, Nicole Kidman.

Prime time • “Ladies, don’t ever let anyone tell you that you are past your prime,” said Michelle Yeoh, collecting the Best Actress Oscar for her role as a feisty time lord and mother in Everything Everywhere All at Once. She is only the second woman of colour to win that award, following Halle Berry in 2002. The film picked up seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture. In an evening that also featured an emotional tribute to Olivia Newton-John by her friend John Travolta, sequins sparkled on the champagne carpet like stars in a heavenly sky.

Top dogs lap up glory • It was with a huge canine smile that English setter Bisbee claimed the world record for the longest tongue on a dog. Bisbee’s appendage measures 9.49cm from tip to snout. Another canine record was recognised when Bobi the purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo from Portugal was named the oldest dog in the world. At 30 years and 272 days, Bobi is more than 200 in human years.

Treat loses peak • The iconic Swiss mountain, the Matterhorn, will be removed from Toblerone’s triangular packaging after production was relocated from Switzerland to Slovakia. Swiss law restricts the use of local imagery on products that aren’t substantially Swiss. A generic peak will be used instead.
