Esquire Singapore

Feb 01 2022
Magazine

After winning three Media Publishing Association awards in 2013 and eleven in 2014, Esquire continues to be regarded as a beacon of excellent journalism in Asia with fifteen wins in 2015. We have no idea where we kept the awards, though. Founded in September 2012, the local edition is produced by a crop of respectable writers, photographers, illustrators and collaborators. Known for its powerful storytelling and ground-breaking photography, delivered in its signature wit, Esquire continues to steward men to their best in Singapore and beyond. The birth of Esquire dates back as far as 1933 in the States and since then, the title is known for pushing boundaries with literary giants such as Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Norman Mailer finding their voice with the magazine.

A LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

The year to call out insane inequality • With Chinese New Year upon us, NEIL HUMPHREYS believes the wealthiest tigers will do what they always do, which is whatever they like.

CLOCKING IN WITH RYAN GOSLING • We talk with TAG Heuer’s latest ambassador on his roles, the inspiration of automobiles and his interest in watches.

IT’S (STILL) HIP TO BE SQUARE • Bell & Ross covers all the angles.

up to speed • Omega’s latest Speedmaster comes cased in a new and proprietary gold alloy but everything else about it is decidedly old-school.

loud and clear • In developing its most state-of-the-art minute repeater, Patek Philippe has sought technical inspiration from—believe it or not—antique gramophones.

the changemaker • In less than a decade, the late Virgil Abloh proved that fashion could change, has changed, and will continue to change.

what’s in a name? • Call it a collaboration if you will, but Loewe’s latest Studio Ghibli-centric capsule collection is more than another mere celebration of Hayao Miyazaki’s unforgettable and brilliant animations.

WHOLLY SCULPTED • The New Range Rover is luxury in simplicity, executed to perfection.

TOO SHARP TO TOUCH • A supercar classic roars back, now available as a hybrid.

NEW WORLD ORDER • Cheese Club heralds the golden age of cheese democratisation.

new eden • Singapore’s largest organic and natural restaurant and retailer grows from within Dempsey Hill.

california eatin’ • The Jigger & Pony Group has been on a steady climb—ranked second in Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2021 and ninth in World’s 50 Best Bars 2021, launched its own line of bottled cocktails, and so on and so forth. Rosemead is the latest addition, where California comes to you.

CHASING THE DREAM • This duo’s self-expression comes as a high-energy street-posh café/bar along Amoy.

setting the tone • Bang & Olufsen makes white products (not white noise).

LIKE THAT DICK TRACY WATCH… • Garmin’s newest smartwatch adds voice functionality. Because using your fingers is so 2021.

sustainable style • Where eco-consciousness stays in trend and in demand.

SPA FROM HOME • PS. Fine Soaps is just one more success in PS.Cafe’s expanding range of merchandise.

RHYTHMIC REMEDY • Foxes seeks liberation from isolation through penning dancefloor jams for her latest album The Kick.

GIGANTIC • What happens when your work becomes bigger than you? For Brian Donnelly, aka Kaws, it means that he’s on the right track.

NEXT UP… CHERIN TAN • This award-winning interior designer just wants to restore the human balance in brands.

the new new • Bringing to the fore little-known Black cultural nuances is par for the course with Virgil Abloh at Louis Vuitton. The maison’s spring/ summer 2022 menswear collection is heavily inspired by music and takes reference from a drum solo called ‘Amen Break’.
