TEQUILA SUNRISE • When you hear the name, you might start humming the Eagles hit of 1973, but the drink got its first rock ’n’ roll cred a year earlier when Mick Jagger tried one in Sausalito, Calif., and made it the unofficial tour drink of the Rolling Stones. The layering of ingredients evokes the dawn of morning.

MARGARITA

PALOMA • It’s hard to pin down the origin of this basic drink of spirit and fruit soda (except that it clearly came into being after Squirt introduced grapefruit soda, circa 1940). The fizzy concoction has since morphed to include lime juice. It is hugely popular in Mexico, where it’s often made with the local soda brand Jarritos.
